This great public domain image DVD contains over 260 high-resolution 600dpi images by the father of Impressionism, Claude Monet (1840-1926).
Monet is perhaps most famous for his painting of water lilies and the Japanese bridge from his garden at Giverny but there's so much more to his work than that!
The images, which are in jpeg format and scanned at 600dpi, are out of copyright and in the public domain in the UK, US and all countries that follow the same copyright rules, and therefore can be used as many times as you like without paying any royalties or commissions to anyone!
Monet, born in Le Havre in 1840, was christened Oscar-Claude by his parents but later became known as just Claude.
The term "Impressionism" is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise ('Impression, soleil levant') which was exhibited in the 1874 'Salon des Refusés' (Exhibition of Rejects). This was initiated by Monet and his associates as an alternative to the Paris Salon where paintings, many of which we have today come to know and love, were continually rejected.
Monet spent his childhood and youth in Le Havre, northern France, where he found his first art teacher, Eugène Boudin in around 1858 who was very much a non-conformist painter. He encouraged Monet to paint 'en plein air' (outdoors) which developed Monet's skill in capturing the brilliance of colour and the contrasts of light and shade.
He went to study in Paris where he met artists who were to become fellow impressionists - Bazille, Renoir and Sisley.
He married Camille in 1870 but almost immediately the Franco-Prussian war broke out so, to avoid conscription, he and his family travelled to London.
When he got back from England in 1871, Monet quickly found the family a place to live in the village of Argenteuil, on the Seine near Paris.
Argenteuil was frequented by boating enthusiasts which gave rise to many boat paintings, and the village became a kind of symbol of Impressionism, being visited by many other artists who came to paint at Monet's invitation.
In Paris, the terminus for trains from Argenteuil was the Gare Saint-Lazare which also gave rise to several paintings by Monet.
In 1878 Monet moved to Vétheuil which was beside the Seine, a very pretty village, again giving rise to countless paintings.
Monet often did many paintings in a series to capture the scene at different times of day and to try different effects. This DVD features some of these series' such as Haystacks, the Church at Rouen, the Houses of Parliament and perhaps, most notably, Water Lilies.
Monet painted over 250 water-lily pictures from his garden at Giverny, to where he'd moved in 1883. At first they rented the house but as Monet's fortunes improved after years of selling only a few paintings, he was able to buy it in 1890. The house and its gardens became the focus of his painting for the next 40 years.
This DVD features paintings over 260 of Monet's paintings including those from Le Havre, London, Argenteuil, The Gare Saint-Lazare, Vétheuil and Giverny.
It includes 24 of his water lily images (all quite different!), several of his famous 'Japanese bridge' images and other famous pictures such as 'Impression, sunrise', 'Poppy field' and so many more.
These great quality, high-resolution images are scanned at 600dpi and range from 3000-8000 pixels tall/wide, mostly being around 4000 x 6000 pixels.
