Cost Effective Crafting: DIY Ideas on a Budget
Share
One of our biggest points of pride at Printable Heaven is that we are able to provide hundreds of good quality, affordable items for crafters of all skill levels. That being said, we are also very aware of the fact that sometimes, accruing lots of crafting materials can result in a pretty substantial bill. Today, we'd like to share with you some crafts that are easy, eye-catching and don't break the bank.
Rock Painting
You don't have to source everything to a crafting site when you're putting materials together for a project, and it can help to look to the outside world for inspiration. You can find rocks in most places, and for a rock painting project, a substantially sized rock with a smooth surface is ideal, as these make the best canvases. We've had a go at a few painted rock projects in our time, and we find that the best-looking results are achieved by following a theme, or sticking to a particular set of colours. Ultimately, though, you can go about it however you like!
Mini Seashell Embellishing
Whilst big seashells are quite expensive to come by, some of the cheapest crafting embellishments that you can buy in a bulk are mini seashells! These are very multi-faceted indeed, and can make great embellishments for cards (especially if you're going for a nautical theme!) and attractive additions to wristbands or necklaces!
Pinecone Ornaments
Here's something (almost) seasonal for you. Pinecones make for lovely, Christmassy decorations, and there are quite a few uses for them. One quick and easy way to use them is to spray paint them gold or silver, and then using a piece of ribbon or twine to hang them from your Christmas tree! They are also indispensable (we think so anyway) additions to any kind of wreath or nature-themed arrangement. Such arrangements are also both cost-effective and easy to make. If you can find holly leaves, small evergreen branches or even fallen autumn leaves, these can be great embellishments for an arrangement project.
Cardboard Crafts
We've all got a cardboard box or six that we perhaps should have thrown away by now, or that we're keeping "just in case" we need to eventually use it for storage. A great (and far more immediate) use for this kind of clutter can be to repurpose it into a crafting project! Some easy crafts to make from cardboard include a drawer organiser, a bird house, or a cardboard diorama!
Paper Flowers
A tried and true classic. Whether you made these in a primary school art lesson or not, paper flowers are a fun, easy and budget friendly crafting project, and one that you can get the whole family involved with too. You can use any kind of paper when undertaking a project such as this, everything from cardstock to filter paper and coloured tracing paper. You can create simple two-dimensional designs, or really go for something more complex and create three-dimensional, layered bunches of flowers. However complicated or simple the project may be, you can guarantee that it won't empty your wallet.
